Diakoftis, Mykonos – A Cycladic Villa Reinterpreted 2026-

A familiar landscape, reinterpreted from within.

Located in Diakoftis, in the Pouli area of Mykonos, the renovation reconsiders an existing villa through a contemporary reading of Mykonian architecture. Facing Delos and the western horizon, the residence is shaped by an exceptional relationship with the sea, light and sunset — elements that become part of the everyday experience of the house.

The intervention begins with a complete reorganization of the existing layout. Circulation is simplified, connections between spaces are strengthened and the relationship between interior and exterior areas is made more direct. Living spaces become more open and continuous, while private areas retain a greater sense of intimacy and separation.

The architectural language is refined through a contemporary interpretation of the Mykonian aesthetic.

White mineral surfaces, natural stone, timber, built-in furniture, soft geometries and carefully selected textures create a restrained material palette that responds to the Cycladic landscape without resorting to literal or decorative references.

Rather than reproducing traditional forms, the design focuses on their essential qualities: simplicity, light, materiality and the seamless transition between inside and outside. Openings, thresholds and framed views are treated as part of the composition, allowing the changing light of the island and the distant presence of Delos to continuously redefine the interior atmosphere.

Furniture, lighting and bespoke elements are integrated into the architecture rather than treated as separate additions. Together, they reinforce a sense of continuity, calm and understated refinement.

The result is a residence that preserves the familiarity of a Mykonian home while introducing greater spatial clarity, comfort and coherence. The existing villa is not reinvented, but carefully reinterpreted — allowing its relationship with place, light and landscape to become more present.
