Their positioning provides natural protection from Mykonos’ prevailing northern and north-western winds, creating sheltered environments for both indoor and outdoor living.

The long and narrow buildable area, together with the required side setbacks and the protection zone along the seasonal stream, shaped the development into separate volumes. This arrangement allows each residence to maintain privacy, uninterrupted views and a direct relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Large openings dissolve the conventional boundary between interior and exterior. Living spaces extend towards shaded terraces, courtyards, pools and landscaped areas, creating a continuous environment where architecture, outdoor living and nature become part of the same experience.

The architectural language reinterprets the rural Cycladic and Mykonian vernacular through materiality rather than imitation. Local stone, timber, earth-toned surfaces and planting borrow their colours and textures from the site. Stone-clad retaining walls recall the traditional dry-stone terraces of the island, while timber pergolas provide shade and planted roofs allow the terrain to continue across the architecture.

Landscape design forms an integral part of the project. Existing wild olive trees are preserved or carefully transplanted where necessary and complemented by drought-resistant Mediterranean planting. Prickly pears, native species and stone terraces reinforce the character of the existing landscape rather than introducing an imported garden aesthetic.

Whispering Elia ultimately proposes a quieter interpretation of Mykonian luxury — one based on privacy, shelter, natural materials, space and a close relationship with the landscape. Rather than dominating its surroundings, the architecture seeks to become part of them, allowing contemporary comfort to coexist with the elemental experience of inhabiting the island.
